Instead of uploading files repeatedly, link specific Google Drive folders directly to ChatGPT Projects for live-updating context. When documents change in Drive, ChatGPT automatically reads the current version—eliminating re-uploads and keeping team collaboration seamless and current.

ChatGPT Projects are persistent workspaces that hold custom instructions, file libraries, and continuity across conversations. A recent update lets you link Google Drive folders or files directly to a Project, so ChatGPT always sees the latest version when you reference that content. To set this up, start by creating or opening a ChatGPT Project (available on Pro and eligible Business/Enterprise plans). Go to Settings → Apps and connect Google Drive, which requires Google authorization. Once connected, open your Project and look for the option to add files or folders from Drive. Select the specific folder you want linked—for example, a project folder with client contracts, meeting notes, or product specs. ChatGPT's interface will show you which folder is connected and what files it contains. The key advantage is live updates: when a team member edits a Google Doc inside that folder or uploads a new spreadsheet, ChatGPT sees the changes automatically on your next prompt. You never have to re-upload or re-explain the context. This is fundamentally different from static file attachments—your source of truth stays in Drive, and the AI stays in sync. A practical workflow: Your product team runs a ChatGPT Project for quarterly planning. Link the "Q4-Planning" folder from Drive, which contains the product roadmap, customer feedback spreadsheet, and engineering constraints doc. Throughout the quarter, as the roadmap evolves or new feedback comes in, team members update the docs in Drive. When you ask ChatGPT "What features are we prioritizing next?" or "Highlight conflicts between roadmap and engineering constraints," Claude reads the current files without you lifting a finger. One important note: ChatGPT reads your Drive; it does not watch folders for triggers or automatically move files on events. Permissions flow through your Google account—ChatGPT can only access files you already have access to.
