Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent at Gemini at Work 2026 on October 8, 2026, a universal agent for work with all of an organization's business context that can be used for everything from knowledge work to answering questions, and content creation to coding, all from a single prompt box. The agent completes complex multi-step tasks across Google Workspace, Slack, and Microsoft 365, featuring routes work across multiple AI models like Gemini and Claude. Currently in private preview with no pricing and no general release date.

Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent at Gemini at Work 2026 on October 8, 2026, a universal agent for work. Gemini has all of an organization's business context and can be used for everything from knowledge work to answering questions, and content creation to coding, all from a single prompt box, plans the work, uses skills and tools, connects to Cloud customers' business systems, and brings back something finished inside the documents, the inbox, and the developer environments they already work in.

Unveiled by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian at the Gemini at Work 2026 event, users can simply describe a final goal instead of guiding the AI through every single step, and the agent figures out the necessary steps, connects to background tools, and delivers finished documents, spreadsheets, or summaries directly to your inbox. The agent operates across Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, and Drive, Microsoft 365, Slack, and external business tools like Jira, Salesforce, and ServiceNow.

The universal Gemini agent can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create images and media, and write and run code. Gemini works inside Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar; can be accessed from any device and any channel; carries the same memory, skills and controls it has everywhere else; and delivers actionable operational insights in response to plain-language questions. The agent is secured and governed through identity and policy management, authorization and permission controls, secure sandboxing and network gateways, and enables cost controls via multi-model orchestration, Smart Routing and real-time spend caps.

Google Cloud announced industry-specific agents for financial services, legal, government, healthcare and retail, with agents for financial services and legal now in preview, while those for government, healthcare and retail will be released soon.
