Speed Up Design-to-Code With Claude Design System Import

Import your existing design tokens and components into Claude Design so it generates UI that matches your brand guidelines automatically. This eliminates manual design-to-code rebuild cycles and keeps prototypes consistent with your system from the first draft.
Claude Design now supports importing your entire design system directly from GitHub. Instead of Claude generating random UI, it learns your component library, color palette, typography, and spacing rules-then builds prototypes that respect your standards. This matters because it closes the gap between what designers want and what developers implement.
To set this up, create a design-system-spec.json file in your repository root that maps your design tokens, component files, and SVG assets. The file looks simple: just point Claude to your repository URL, specify your framework (React, Vue, etc.), and list the paths to your design resources. Commit this once, and every time you open Claude Design, you can import your system.
Here's a real workflow: a product manager describes a new settings panel for their SaaS: "Rebuild our settings page with three tabs: Profile, Billing, Team. Move notification toggles to Preferences." Claude Design generates a prototype using the actual components and colors from your system. A designer reviews it on the canvas, adjusts spacing with sliders, and adds implementation notes directly on elements. Then they hit "Send to Claude Code"-Claude Code receives the whole thing as a machine-readable spec, not a screenshot, and can implement it. For teams already on Claude Pro or Max, this eliminates the painful step of pasting mockups into code and manually rebuilding them.
One constraint: the import is a snapshot. If you update your component library after importing, run the /design-sync command in Claude Code to refresh. Treat it like rebuilding a test after a system update-the sync is one command, not a manual process.
