Skip chunking and vector search entirely. Claude's 200K token context window lets you upload entire multi-hundred-page documents and ask questions that connect distant sections-without the accuracy loss of traditional chunking. Perfect for contract analysis, research synthesis, and financial reports where relationships between pages matter.

Most AI tools solve long document problems by breaking them into chunks, indexing with vector search, and retrieving only "relevant" sections before answering. This fails spectacularly when your question requires understanding connections across page 3 and page 147-the chunking and retrieval layers lose the links.

Claude's 200K token context window (roughly 500 pages of dense text) processes entire documents as coherent objects. Upload a contract, research paper, or financial report-up to 32MB-and Claude holds the complete text in working memory simultaneously. Ask questions that depend on synthesizing across sections, and the model traces those connections without hallucinating or forgetting.

Here's the professional workflow: Save your PDF as plain text or use a tool like pdfplumber to extract it. Upload the full extracted content to Claude-don't split it. Then ask structured questions: "Summarize all obligations in Section 2 that conflict with Section 9," or "Which revenue streams appear in the forecast but not in the historical analysis?" Claude answers by reasoning across the entire document coherently.

Example: A legal team analyzed a 280-page acquisition agreement. They uploaded it in full and asked obscure questions about obligations buried on page 180-Claude found them accurately. The same questions sent to ChatGPT (even on Pro) returned hallucinated answers because its retrieval system missed the relevant passages. No prompt engineering fixes this; it's an architectural advantage. When you need answers that require understanding document topology, not just keyword proximity, Claude's full-document processing replaces chunking entirely.
