Use ChatGPT Canvas to Draft & Iterate Faster Than Chat

Stop bouncing between chat messages and external documents. Canvas is a split-screen editor where you and ChatGPT co-write side by side, making targeted edits to specific sections without recreating entire documents. For sales proposals, technical specs, and marketing copy, Canvas cuts iteration cycles from hours to minutes.
Canvas is a side-by-side editing interface built into ChatGPT. When you ask for a long-form piece-a report, article, sales proposal, or codebase-Canvas opens a persistent document panel next to your chat. Instead of receiving a new text block every time you revise, ChatGPT edits the document in place. You can edit directly yourself, then ask for changes: "Shorten the third paragraph to 50 words," or "Rewrite the technical section for a non-technical audience." ChatGPT applies those changes inline, preserving the rest of your work.
The standard chat model wastes cycles: you request a draft, get a block of text, copy it to an editor, notice it needs changes, paste it back into chat, ask for revisions, receive a full replacement. Canvas eliminates this friction. The document lives in one focused workspace. Both you and the model edit the same file, and ChatGPT's inline editing model is trained to know whether to rewrite a paragraph or adjust a single sentence-not to replace everything.
For professionals, this matters most on iterative work. A marketing team drafting a product launch email used Canvas: ChatGPT generated the first draft, the team adjusted tone and messaging directly in the panel, then asked ChatGPT for specific A/B variations of the subject line and call-to-action. Each revision took seconds. Team comments and version tracking are built in. Compare that to traditional workflows: paste draft → request changes → wait for response → copy revised version → repeat.
Canvas is available on ChatGPT Plus and above. It launches automatically for long-form writing and code work. If it doesn't open, manually click the Canvas icon or ask ChatGPT directly. For solo writing, team collaboration, and code debugging, this single feature cuts real time spent on revision cycles-it's less about AI capability and more about eliminating workflow friction.
