Save Hours: Use Claude Projects for Persistent Context

Stop pasting the same context into every conversation. Claude Projects create a persistent workspace where your custom instructions, reference documents, and brand guidelines automatically apply to all future chats in that project. Set it up once and every conversation starts smarter-ideal for ongoing content work, code projects, or client-specific tasks.

Claude Projects is one of the most underused features in Claude Pro, yet it's a game-changer for professional workflows. Instead of starting each conversation from scratch and re-pasting context, a Project lets you upload documents, write custom instructions, and build a knowledge base that automatically applies to every chat within that project. This is especially powerful for recurring work like marketing copy, coding, analysis, or client deliverables.

To set up a project, open claude.ai and click 'New Project' in the left sidebar. Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Q4 2026 Product Roadmap" or "Python API Documentation"). Write custom instructions that describe your role, output preferences, and any domain-specific context. Upload up to 20 reference files (PDFs, Word docs, code files, CSVs) that Claude can access in every conversation-your style guide, previous reports, API specs, or codebase architecture. You can upload up to 200K tokens of content per project.

Once set up, every new conversation you open inside the project inherits all your instructions and documents automatically. Claude reads them before responding, so it understands your brand voice, coding standards, or analytical framework without you mentioning it. For teams on Team or Enterprise plans, you can share entire projects with colleagues-giving everyone access to the same Claude configuration and knowledge base.

The real-world impact: A marketing team uses one Project for all campaign copy, with custom instructions for tone and a knowledge base of brand guidelines and competitor analysis. A data engineer uses another Project for API integration work, pre-loaded with architecture documentation and preferred Python patterns. Neither has to paste context again; Claude remembers. For work that repeats weekly or monthly, Projects typically save 5–10 minutes per session-which compounds to hours per month.
