Bookmarks are static; Collections are living documents. Perplexity Collections let you save entire research threads-not just links-into organized folders by project or topic. The key difference: when you reopen a saved thread weeks later, you can ask new follow-up questions and the AI retains all the context from that specific research arc. You're not starting over; you're continuing.

The setup is simple. Go to Spaces (Perplexity's sidebar feature) and create a new Space for each research project. Give it a specific name-"Thesis: AI Impact on Labour Markets" beats "AI Research." Add custom AI instructions to that Space so every search within it follows your research discipline. For academic work, that might be: "Restrict sources to peer-reviewed journals and academic preprints. Flag conflicting findings. Provide citations I can click to verify."

When you save a research thread to a Collection, you're preserving not just the answers but the entire conversation. Two weeks later, open that Collection, and instead of reading old results, ask "Compare this finding with what we found about sector-specific impacts." Perplexity remembers the full research arc and synthesizes across threads you've saved.

Concrete example: A policy researcher investigating healthcare AI regulation saved threads on federal guidelines, state-level experiments, and industry responses into one Collection.
